What it means

A participant identifier is a four-digit scheme and an identifier, joined by a colon.

What to do

Use scheme:identifier, for example 9932:GB123456789 for a UK VAT number or 0088:5012345678900 for a GLN.

Sent as application/problem+json (RFC 9457). Branch on type, which is stable. Never branch on title or detail, which are prose and may change.
